  • Why do i not believe that?

why does my gut tell me they would simply say "oh, i'm ready for a woman, but she's not qualified" for any woman.

i know, i'm too cynical for my own good. I often ask myself which will come first in our "melting pot". 1) black, 2) women, 3) gay, or 4) hispanic president.

i figured it would be Hispanic, till the great "anti immigrant (read - Hispanic) election of 2006.
    • I just wish that the woman in question weren't Hillary.
      • Totally serious question, cause i have no answer that i draw from modern politics, who do you think would make a good candiate - all else being equal?
        • You mean a good hypothetical woman, or good from our current choices?

Of our current choices, I prefer Barack over Hillary, because I prefer his stance on issues of concern to me: specifically he's not waffling on his anti-war stance, and doesn't seem to be angling for some artificial 'middle ground' on abortion the way Hillary is. I like Barack a lot. He's intelligent, articulate, clear and not sucking up to the Right--which is the most dangerous thing democrats can do, and I really wish they'd snap out of that destructive conciliatory pattern. I'm finding the 'vote woman or vote black' debate both reductive and old.

My ideal choice for president, given all the druthers in the world? Ohh, Emma Goldman, probably.

I do agree that the idea of a nonwhite, nonmale president isn't as farfetched as it might have even ten years ago. Both have served in top government positions for a few decades now. I'm thinking Powell and Rice. Ironic, in a way, that this groundbreaking is coming from the right.
