Hello All,
I am 39 years old and I first heard about Feminism last year. My boyfriend is a feminist and he introduced it to me. Let me tell you that it has been the most empowering experience of my life!
I have recently moved to Seattle and am looking for more feminist to hang with. Does anyone have any ideas about where I should look?
Thanks,
Daisy

I'm genuinely curious as to how you can be almost forty and never heard of feminism prior to last year.

Perhaps she had heard of it but was never encouraged to embody it. Sometimes if things are foreign to us they might as well not exist. She just needed the right spin to it so it would appear in front of her as something viable, something new; something she had never seen before. It is like the difference between looking at pictures of Paris and then actually going to Paris.

I lived in a small town in rural Alaska and thinking outside of the norm was never encouraged. However, Chad has a good theory also. Even though I attended a religious college, surely, it must have come up at some point and I just need the right spin.

    Hi Arctic Daisy,
what kind of feminism are you interested in engaging in? I'm not from Seattle but I can probably point you in the right direction to find some feminist groups. The more mainstream one to join or to use as a resource in the US would be NOW (National Organization of Women). www.now.org/ If you're new to feminism, this may be a good place for you to start. Here's a link to the Seattle chapter www.nowseattle.org/

    Hope this helps! :-)
